DJ Maphorisa has justified his decision to exclude Samthing Soweto from the single ‘Amalanga Awafani,’ which features Mas Musiq and Lawd Weezy.
In a live broadcast on his Instagram account, the well-known producer asserted that Samthing Soweto cannot have it both ways. He disclosed that when Samthing Soweto recorded his last album at his studio, he insisted on receiving 100% ownership of the masters, which was granted. However, now that he has contributed his vocals to the ‘Amalanga Awafani’ single, the vocalist is requesting a share of the masters, a request DJ Maphorisa deemed hypocritical.
“This individual is quite perplexing; I am at my wit’s end. Please try to comprehend my position. He recorded the entire album at my studio, and we granted him full ownership of the masters, yet he still seeks a percentage of the masters for our songs? Who is being unreasonable here? I am uncertain if you all grasp the gravity of the situation. Let us hope for his well-being; I believe he is facing significant challenges,” DJ Maphorisa stated.
Despite DJ Maphorisa’s clarifications, there remains considerable pressure from South Africans on Mas Musiq to acknowledge Samthing Soweto in the credits and to list him among the featured artists.
